Practice eating the exact same breakfast you'll eat on the day of the race a few times before training runs to see how you feel. |
| What does your training involve | Lots of trail running and dirt tracks, which I love because it’s a longer time out there which gets you used to time on your feet, but it's not the intensity, or the impact on the legs, and it's a great way to see and explore the bush around Cairns. |
| What is your inspiration at Brisbane |
I would love to do a sub 4 hour marathon (my only other marathon was 4hrs 12mins). I chose Brisbane because I haven't had much chance to site see in the city and I figured it'll be a good excuse to visit and the route will keep me interested. Also I'm hoping it won't be as cold at the start as it would be further south. My husband Mike, will be cheering me on from the sidelines. This is quite a role reversal as he is the athletic one in the family and I am normally his crew and support.
I have to admit that he is very inspirational to me, and makes me believe I can do anything I set my heart on. Whenever I hit a low point on a training run, I think about him doing a 100 mile run or a three day triathlon and how deep he has to dig, and it gives me some perspective for my own pain and keeps me going. |
| Anything else you want others to know | It's hard to run without your arms! I know because I have just pushed a wheelbarrow 144km with a team of 9 others, between Mareeba and Chillagoe, for fun and to raise money for a good cause. |
